HOGLUND AND HOPKINS SCORE IN 2-0 WIN OVER USC-AIKEN
SAVANNAH, GA - Linda Hoglund and Erin Hopkins each tallied a goal in the match’s first 15 minutes, and the defense turned in a dominating performance to propel Florida Southern to a 2-0 win over South Carolina-Aiken.
Hoglund’s tally came in the fifth minute, off an assist from Hanna Jansson. Hoglund then was on the service end of Hopkins’ goal in the 15th minute, giving the Mocs (1-1) all the offense they would need. It capped a big weekend for the two seniors, with Hoglund totaling one goal and four assists in the two games and Hopkins picking up three goals.
Florida Southern held a 20-0 shot advantage in the first half and finished the match ahead 32-6 in that category, as well as holding a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. USC Aiken (0-2) goalkeepers Nicole Westphal and Taylor Rutland combined to make 13 saves in the match.
Martina Tangen Billing had to make only three saves for Florida Southern, not facing a shot until the 56th minute of play.
Florida Southern will return to Lakeland for its home opener on Sunday against the University of Montevallo at 12:00 p.m.
