Holmes Earns Spot on Academic All-District Team

One day after earning First Team All-Sunshine State Conference honors for the second year in a row, Florida Southern defender Ashley Holmes picked up his second postseason award when he was named First Team Academic All-District. To be considered, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve. Holmes will now go on the national ballot for the Academic All-American Team which will be announced later in November.
Holmes, who is majoring in business administration, started all but two games for the Moccasins this year and helped Florida Southern to a 7-7-1 overall record. He was the Mocs’ second leading scorer with six goals and 13 points, and over the last two seasons has led a defense that has seen its goals against average cut in half. The redshirt junior from Gedling, England was forced to miss the entire 2009 season, and still has one year of eligibility remaining.
