Mocs Are 14th In Final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings
Bolstered by a national runner-up finish in women's golf and NCAA postseason appearances by softball, men's golf and men's and women's tennis, Florida Southern finished 14th in the final standings for the 2011-12 NCAA Division II Learfield Sports Director's Cup.
The Moccasins compiled a total of 516 points and had the highest finish of any Sunshine State Conference school. FSC's 14th-place finish is the school's best since it finished 10th for the 2006-07 school year. Its point total is the second-best in the program's history, trailing only the 554 points accumulated in that 2006-07 season. It's the ninth time in 17 years FSC has finished in the top 20.
Grand Canyon (Ariz.) was the overall winner with a total of 925.5 points, ending a string of eight consecutive first-place finishes by Grand Valley State (Mich.). Grand Valley was second with 894 points.
The final standings illustrate the overall strength of the Sunshine State Conference in Division II. Four other SSC schools finished in the top 30, making the SSC the only Division II conference with five schools in the top 30. Behind FSC, Rollins was 20th, Nova Southeastern was 22nd, Lynn was 25th and Tampa was 27th.
The Directors' Cup standings are determined by points awarded based on a school's NCAA finish in up to 14 sports - seven men's and seven women's.
