Jensen Joins Tigers As Free Agent
A third member of the 2012 Moccasin baseball team has joined the professional ranks. Cory Jensen has signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Detroit Tigers. He joins 2012 teammates Austin Chubb and Mike Snyder, who were chosen in the Major League Baseball Draft earlier this month.
A first-team All-Sunshine State Conference and Daktronics All-South Region selection, Jensen was the Moccasins' leading hitter this season with a .335 average with four home runs and 25 RBI. He led the team in on-base percentage (.409) and shared the team lead in walks (20). He hit .395 in Sunshine State Conference games. While starting every game for the Moccasins, he played five different positions, starting 23 at second base, 11 in center field, five in right field, three in left field and two at designated hitter.
Jensen is the third former Moccasin now in the Tigers' organization, joining 2011 teammates Colin Kaline and Zach Maggard.
Chubb was chosen by the Washington Nationals in the 21st round and Snyder was was picked by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 23rd round. Both have signed with their respective organizations.
