Hammerer, Mason Named To IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. - Florida Southern Women’s Lacrosse players Katie Hammerer and Mara Mason were named to the 2012 Academic Honor Roll by the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) on Thursday.

"This is a really nice honor and I'm very proud of both Katie and Mara for their outstanding achievement in the classroom this past season," FSC head coach Kara Reber said, who was named last season's Independent Coach of the Year.

Hammerer and Mason were among 82 student-athletes from 29 NCAA Division II institutions included in the honor roll. The student-athletes were nominated by their respective schools and have achieved at least junior status academically.

Hammerer, who is a native of California, Md., started all 16 games at goalkeeper for the Mocs this past season. The junior recorded a 10.33 goals-against average, which ranked 11th in the NCAA Division II statistics for the 2012 season. She also recorded 108 saves with a season high of 14 saves against Lock Haven and national semi-finalist Rollins.

Mason, who is a native of Rochester, N.Y., started 15 games at attack during the 2012 season. She scored 29 goals on the season, with a season-high four goals scored against Lock Haven and Saint Leo. The senior was fourth on the team with 47 total points on the season.

The 2012 season was the inaugural year for FSC’s Women’s Lacrosse program as the Mocs finished the season ranked 15th nationally in Division II with a 12-4 record and were ranked eighth in Division II in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
