Men's Golf Ranked 15th In Division II Preseason Poll
Case Gard and the Mocs are ranked 15th in Preseason D-II Coaches' PollNEW YORK – Florida Southern Men’s Golf opens the 2012-13 season ranked 15th in the Preseason Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll that was released on Wednesday.
The rankings for the Golf World/Nike Golf poll are determined by combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The poll will appear in the Sept. 3 issue of Golf World magazine.
FSC, who finished 10th at last season’s NCAA D-II South/Southeast Super Regional and second at the Sunshine State Conference Championships, is one of four SSC teams in the Top 15 of the preseason rankings. The Mocs earned 168 points to stand 16 points behind No. 14 St. Edward’s and 27 points in front of No. 16 Indianapolis, who finished tied for 11th at last season’s NCAA National Championships.
Defending NCAA Division II National Champion Nova Southeastern headlines the preseason poll as the Sharks received 15 of 17 first place votes and 424 points. Other SSC teams ranked included Barry at No. 2 and Lynn at No. 6. Barry earned 417 points and Lynn received a first place vote and 310 points in the poll.
Along with the four ranked teams, three other SSC teams received votes in the preseason poll led by Rollins (62 votes), Florida Tech (55 votes) and Eckerd (9 votes).
Coach Doug Gordin returns four of its top five golfers from last season, led by senior Case Gard (Lakeland, Fla.), who was a PING D-II Honorable Mention All-American last season after recording a school-best 73.1 scoring average. He finished 10th at the SSC Tournament and had five other Top 10 finishes on the year.
The Moccasins begin their fall season on Sept. 15-16 at the McLaughlin hosted by St. John’s University and held on the Red Course at historic Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
