Women's Golf Second In Preseason NGCA Coaches' Poll
NEW YORK – Coming off its fifth national runner-up finish a season ago, four-time NCAA Division II National Champion Florida Southern Women’s Golf is ranked second in the Golf World /NGCA D-II Preseason Coaches’ Poll that was released on Wednesday.
The Moccasins, who are led by coach Robbie Davis, collected 580 points and garnered one first place vote for the No. 2 spot in the poll.
Sunshine State Conference rival Nova Southeastern, who is seeking its fifth consecutive national championship, once again is the favorite to win the national title, receiving 24 of 25 first-place votes and a total of 624 points in the preseason poll. Grand Canyon, St. Edward’s and Tarleton State round out the Top 5 of the preseason poll.
A total of seven SSC schools are either ranked or received votes in the poll. Lynn, Barry and Saint Leo are ranked sixth, seventh and ninth respectively, while Rollins is ranked 11th. Florida Tech received 49 votes in the poll to be just outside the Top 25.
The Mocs bring back four of its five golfers who participated on last season’s national runner-up squad. Among the top returners are senior Amy Hodgkinson (Mead, Colo.), senior Megan Kiley (Leo, Ind.), sophomore Jackie Rajek (Suwanee, Ga.) and junior Barbora Vejlupkova (Prague, Czech Republic).
Last season, Kiley was the team’s No. 2 golfer as she earned Honorable Mention All-American honors after posting a career-best 77.2 scoring average. She had three Top 5 finishes and tied for 16th place overall at the NCAA D-II National Championships.
In addition, Davis also returns four other golfers who saw tournament action throughout last season, as well as five newcomers to the program.
FSC begins its fall competition on Sept. 16-17 as they compete at the NCAA Women’s D-II Fall Preview, which will be held at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach.
