Mocs Stand Third After First Round of Daytona State Invitational
Megan Kiley shot a one-under par 71 in first round of Lady Falcon InvitationalDAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The Florida Southern Women's Golf Team opened up play here Saturday in the Lady Falcon Invitational hosted by Daytona State College by shooting a 308 as a team to stand in third place out of nine teams at the LPGA International's Legends Course.
It is the second consecutive week that the Moccasins are competing on the Legends Course at the LPGA International as they finished fifth at last week's rain shortened NCAA Division II Fall Preview Tournament. The Legends Course is the site of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships.
While the 'A' Team shot a 308 in Saturday's first round, the Mocs sent a 'B' Team to the tournament and they carded a 327 to stand in seventh place after the first round.
Leading the way for the Mocs was senior Megan Kiley (Leo, Ind.), who carded a one-under par 71 to stand in second place. Kiley shot a two-over par 38 on the front nine, before carding a 3-under par 33 on the back nine. Kiley is one shot behind Rollins' Annie Dulman, who fired a two-under par 70 to take the first day lead. Daytona State's Mary Dawson is in third place as she shot an even-par 72.
The 'B' Team's top golfer in the first round was junior Hannah Duffie (Dalton, Ga.), who carded a three-over par 75 to stand in a tie for fourth place. Duffie is tied with Florida Tech's Jessica Hook.
In addition to Kiley, junior Barbora Vejlupkova (Prague, Czech Republic) carded a 76 to stand tied for 10th place, while sophomore Emily Rymer (Orlando, Fla.) fired an 80 to stand tied for 20th place. Senior Amy Hodgkinson (Mead, Colo.) and junior Callie Hodgkinson (Mead, Colo.) each fired scores of 81 to stand tied for 24th place.
Along with Duffie on the 'B' Team, junior Jackie Rajek (Suwanee, Ga.) fired an 80 to stand tied for 20th place, while freshman Emily Tofaute (Louisville, Kent.) shot an 84 to stand tied for 35th place and freshman Colleen Panosian (Smyrna, Ga.) carded an 88 to stand tied for 44th place. The final golfer for the 'B' Team was freshman Katharine Creighton (Buffalo, N.Y.), who shot a 90 to stand tied for 47th place.
The Mocs will conclude the two-day tournament with another 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
