Mocs Finish Second at Daytona State Invitational
Megan Kiley shot 3-under 141 to finish in second place overall.DAYTONA BEACH - Florida Southern Women's Golf concluded play here Sunday in the Lady Falcon Invitational hosted by Daytona State College with a second place finish out of nine teams at the LPGA International's Legends Course.
After shooting a 308 in the first round to stand in third place overall, the Moccasins carded a 305 as a team in Sunday's final round to overtake Daytona State College and finish in second place. Florida Tech, who was in fourth place after the first round, and Daytona State each finished with scores of 619 to finish tied for third place overall. Florida Tech shot a 309 in the second round, while Daytona State fired a 313.
Rollins College took home the team title at the nine-team event as the Tars followed up its 297 in the first round with a 294 in the final round to push its team score to 591 for 36 holes.
While the Mocs 'A' Team finished in second place with a 613, its 'B' Team finished the tournament in seventh place as they shot a 333 in the second round and finished with a 660 for 36 holes.
Leading the way for the Mocs was senior Megan Kiley (Leo, Ind.), who fired a two-under par 70 on Sunday, finished with a three-under par 141 for 36 holes, which put her in second place after losing a playoff to Rollins' Annie Dulman, who also shot a 141 for 36 holes. Dulman carded a 71 in the second round after shooting a 70 in the first round. Rollins' Kayla Sciupider fired a 36 hole total of 147 (76, 71) to finish in third place overall.
The 'B' Team's top finisher was junior Hannah Duffie (Dalton, Ga.), who fired a 159 for 36 holes to finish in a tie for 19th place. Duffie opened with a 75 in the first round, before shooting an 84 in the second round.
In addition to Kiley, junior Barbora Vejlupkova (Prague, Czech Republic) fired an even-par 72 in the final round to move up six spots and finish in fourth place overall with a 4-over par 148. Sophomore Emily Rymer (Orlando, Fla.) closed the tournament with an 81 in the second round to push her 36 hole total to 161 to finish in a tie for 22nd place, while senior Amy Hodgkinson (Mead, Colo.) shot an 82 in the second round to push her 36 hole total to 163, which was tied for 29th place. Junior Callie Hodgkinson (Mead, Colo.) shot an 87 in the final round to push her total to 168 to finish in 38th place overall.
Along with Duffie on the 'B' Team, junior Jackie Rajek (Suwanee, Ga.) fored an 81 in the final round to stand tied for 22nd place with a 161, while freshman Emily Tofaute (Louisville, Kent.) shot an 81 in the final round to push her 36 hole total to 165, which was tied for 33rd place and freshman Colleen Panosian (Smyrna, Ga.) shot an 87 in the final round to push her final total to 175, which was tied for 44th overall. The final golfer for the 'B' Team was freshman Katharine Creighton (Buffalo, N.Y.), who shot an 89 in Sunday's final round to finish in 47th place with a 179 for 36 holes.
The Mocs will return to the course on Oct. 8-9 at Guy Harvey Invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern and held on the Palmer Course at the PGA National Golf Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
