Moccasins Finish 32nd in Final ITA Division II Rankings
SKILLMAN, New Jersey - The Florida Southern men's tennis team closed out the 2012-13 season ranked 32nd in the final ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Division II rankings that were released late Wednesday evening.
The Moccasins fell two spots from No. 30 in this year's final poll after finishing the season with a 14-10 overall record and advancing to the NCAA D-II Tournament for the 18th consecutive season and 20th time overall in school history. FSC lost to No. 3 ranked West Florida, 5-0, in the semifinals of the NCAA D-II South Regional in Pensacola.
FSC is one of six teams ranked in the final ITA poll from the Sunshine State Conference as four of the Top 10 teams in the final poll are from the SSC. The other SSC teams ranked are NCAA D-II National Champion Barry at No. 1, while Lynn is fourth, Saint Leo is ranked 8th and Rollins is 9th. The only other ranked outside the Top 10 besides FSC is Florida Tech as the Panthers are ranked 46th.
Along with releasing its end of the season national rankings, the ITA also released its final rankings in all eight NCAA regions and in the final South Region rankings, the Mocs are ranked eighth. FSC is one of six SSC teams in the Top 10 of the final South Region rankings. The other non-SSC teams ranked regionally are West Florida (No. 2), West Alabama (No. 6), Valdosta State (No. 7) and Alabama-Huntsville, who is tied with Florida Tech for 10th. In the national rankings, UWF is third, UWA is 27th, VSU is 30th and UAH is ranked 41st.
The ITA also released its end of the season national and regional player rankings on Wednesday evening and the Moccasins No. 1 doubles team of junior Benoit Paradis (Quebec City, Quebec) and sophomore Emanuel Lueber (Tiengen, Germany) are ranked 15th nationally in doubles. In addition to being 15th in doubles nationally, the Moc tandem finishes the season ranked sixth in doubles in the South Region, while Leuber and Paradis are ranked 19th and 20th respectively in singles in the final South Region rankings.
On the season, Paradis and Lueber combined to post a 14-11 record in doubles, including going 13-10 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. In addition, Paradis, who earned First-Team All-SSC honors in singles, posted a team-best 16-8 record in singles, including going 15-6 at the No. 2 spot, while Lueber compiled a 9-13 record in singles, including going 7-11 at the No. 1 spot.
