Mocs Head Into Regular Season With Exhibition Win Over Savannah A&D
PONTA VEDRA BEACH - The regular season hasn't yet begun for the Florida Southern lacrosse team, but when it does, the Moccasins will already have a win under their belt. Scoring nine goals in the second half, Florida Southern blew open a close game to down Savannah College of Art & Design, 14-5 in its final exhibition match.
The Moccasins held a 5-4 lead at halftime, then out-scored the Bees 5-0 in the third period. They tacked on four more in the fourth to finish with their highest scoring output of the preseason. The Mocs had previously lost to Division I programs South Florida and Florida State in the fall by scores of 14-11 and 12-10.
Scoring five times for Florida Southern on Saturday was freshman Nick Papagikos, while freshman Cason Heckle scored three goals. Max Whipple, appearing in his first game since transferring from Bryant University, scored twice for the Mocs. Goalie Andrew Almansberger made 18 saves.
Florida Southern will play its first regular season game on Wednesday night at Bryant Stadium, as it hosts Hartwick at 7:00 p.m.
