Lueber Opens C.L. Varner Invitational With Pair of Flight A Wins
WINTER PARK - Emanuel Lueber picked up wins in singles and doubles, and all three Moccasin doubles teams also won on Friday on the first day of the C.L. Varner Invitational.
Complete results were unavailable as of 11 p.m. Friday night, but Lueber was victorious in the Flight A singles bracket, defeating Will Kwok of Rollins, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8. He was scheduled to play Kevin Sielman of Rollins in the second round. Lueber also teamed up with Benoit Paradis for an 8-4 win in the Flight A doubles bracket, sending them into Saturday's second round at 9 a.m. against Ahmed Tricki and Fabien Groetsch of Barry.
In the Flight B doubles bracket, Carl Lundberg and Vladimir Barabash defeated Eduardo Alfonso and Nico Dreer of Barry, 8-4, while Austin Comings and Charles Garneau downed Keegan Burger and Jacobo Herrero of Rollins by the same score. Both sets of Moccasin doubles partners will play in the second round Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
In other available singles results from Friday, Paradis lost to Lynn's Vlad Circla in round one of the Flight A bracket, 6-3, 6-3, but he bounced back in the afternoon for a 3-set win in the back draw over Barry's Romain Costamagna (1-6, 6-2, 10-7). He'll continue play in the back draw Saturday morning at 10:30. Meanwhile, Barabash dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) decision in the Flight B bracket, and Garneau fell in three sets in his Flight C match, 6-1, 2-6, 10-3.
