CROSS COUNTRY ADVANCES TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ... Fresh off their SSC Championship victory on Oct. 26, the Moccasins took to the Sydney Dover Trails in Dover this past Saturday and brought home the program's first South Region title since 2007. Seniors Chris Yanichko and David Tomchinsky both placed in the Top 10, with Yanichko finishing sixth and Tomchinsky eighth, as the Mocs scored 65 points to take home the regional title and advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Spokane, Wash., which is schedule for Saturday, Nov. 23.

FIVE MOCS NAMED ALL-SOUTH REGION; MARTUCCI NAMED SOUTH REGION COACH OF THE YEAR ... After Florida Southern's win at the South Region Championship last Saturday, five Moccasins were named to the USTFCCCA All-South Region Team. Seniors Chris Yanichko, David Tomchinsky and Chris Trebilcock, sophomore Jose Perez and freshman Robert Ormsby all received All-South Region honors after placing in the Top 20 at the South Region Championships in Dover. In addition to All-Region honors, Mocs head coach Ben Martucci was named South Region Men's Coach of the Year after his squad's stellar performance in Dover.

MEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH TWO WINS ... Head Coach Linc Darner's Moccasin men's basketball team opened the season with two wins at the "Down in the Delta" Challenge this past weekend. No. 9 Florida Southern opened their first game of the 2013-14 season on Saturday with an 89-66 win over host Delta State, with four players scoring in double figures, including a team-high 23 points from junior guard Kevin Capers. The following day, FSC once again had four players score double-digits as the Mocs took down Arkansas-Monticello, 81-71, with junior forward Stephen Battle leading the team in scoring with 15 points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS OPENING TWO GAMES AT UT SPARTAN CHALLENGE ... Opening their season at the UT Spartan Classic this past weekend, the Moccasin women's basketball team fell in their first two games to No. 3 Clayton State and Francis Marion. Against Clayton State, the Mocs led for much of the game before the Lakers pulled ahead late in the second half to take the game, 63-62. Senior guard Taylor Maldonado scored a career-high 26 points in the loss, while freshman forward Laura Hackett led with seven rebounds. Against Francis Marion last Saturday, the Mocs went into halftime leading by one before the Patriots pulled away in the second half to post a 74-61 win. Junior guard Cashala Thompson scored a career-high 16 points, while sophomore forward Mariah Harris scored 12 and pulled down 9 rebounds.

CLINGERMAN NAMED TO SSC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM ... Despite losing their first-round game, Florida Southern goalkeeper Cole Clingerman was named to the SSC Men’s Soccer All-Tournament Team this past Sunday after the conclusion of the tournament’s championship match. Clingerman made a career-high 10 saves in the team's first round loss to fourth-seed Barry, in which the Mocs lost, 4-1 on penalty kicks. The freshman became the second Moccasin ever to be named to the All-Tournament team, joining forward Patrik Dandanell, who was selected in 2006.

WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS ... Despite a career-high 13 saves from junior goalkeeper Erin Moseley, the Moccasins fell to third-seeded Rollins 3-0 in the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament in Miami Shores on the campus of Barry University this past Friday. Moseley's 13 saves were the second highest total in the history of the SSC Tournament.

VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO LAST WEEKEND AT TRI-MATCH AT FLAGLER ... Florida Southern opened their season-ending six match road stretch with a pair of losses in St. Augustine this past Saturday to 19th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic and Flagler. Against Armstrong Atlantic, the Mocs fell in four sets while being held to .160 hitting percentage for the match. Outside hitters  Kate Stromberg and Brindl Langley both recorded 13 kills in the loss, while Stromberg also added 18 digs. Against Flagler later that same day, the Mocs lost a five-set thriller to Flagler that featured 60 kills from both teams and nine or more total team blocks. Stromberg once again led the Mocs with 15 kills, while libero Catherine Brusie led the defense with 20 digs and middle blocker Dominique Hale recorded three blocks. Despite the losses, FSC is ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division II South Regional Poll that was released Wednesday.

WOMEN'S TENNIS RANKED NO. 11 IN PRESEASON ITA POLL ... In the Preseason ITA Division II women's tennis rankings, Florida Southern was ranked 11th nationally and ranked sixth in the South Region poll. In addition to the team's rankings, two Florida Southern players are in the national player rankings for both singles and doubles. In the singles rankings, junior Magda Riutort is ranked 22nd nationally, while senior Sabine Goge is ranked 36th nationally. In the national doubles rankings, Riutort and Goge are ranked 10th in the nation. Riutort and Goge were also ranked in the South Region rankings, with Riutort ranking ninth and Goge ranking 11th in singles, while the duo was ranked as the No. 3 doubles team in the region.

MEN'S TENNIS OPENS SEASON RANKED 26TH IN PRESEASON ... Florida Southern's men's tennis team was ranked 26th nationally and seventh in the South Region in the Preseason ITA Division II tennis rankings. In addition to the team rankings, Florida Southern junior Emanuel Lueber earned a spot on the national and regional individual singles rankings. The German-born junior was ranked 49th nationally and 17th in the South Region.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN VOLUNTEERS AT RED RIBBON HALF MARATHON ... Last Saturday, the Florida Southern men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, women’s tennis and softball teams were up early to assist the InnerAct Alliance of Polk County in its Red Ribbon Half Marathon through the city of Lakeland. The race was part of the organization’s efforts to reduce the abuse and underage use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

JILL STEPHENS FEATURED IN FCA MAGAZINE ... Moccasins volleyball head coach Jill Stephens is featured in its "Heart of the Coach" section in the latest issue of Fellowship of Christian Athletes Magazine.  The section focuses on Stephens' career at FSC and how that revolves around her involvement with FSC as both a coach and a former player.

THE MOCS REPORT ... Listen to the weekly Mocs Report on WLKF (1430 AM) in Lakeland at approximately 8:05 a.m. FSC Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communication Ben Greenberg provides information and updates on Moccasin Athletics each week with “Mayhem in the AM” host Len Erickson. The program will air each Friday morning at 8:05 a.m. throughout the school year.
