Curcio Named Preseason ABCA/CBN Preseason All-American
LAKELAND - With the start of the 2014 season just four days away, Florida Southern junior outfielder Keith Curcio was recently named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Division II All-American Team. The preseason All-American team was announced in the Jan. 3, 2014 edition of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Curcio, a 5-foot-11 outfielder from Sarasota, Fla., returns for his junior season after leading the Moccasins in several offensive categories a season ago. Last year, Curcio led the Mocs in batting average (.349), hits (60), triples (2) and stolen bases (29) and was tied for the team lead in doubles (7) and was second on the squad in runs scored (36) and at-bats (172). In addition, he hit two home runs, drew 25 walks and had 18 multi-hit games and six multiple RBI contests. His 29 stolen bases were second-best in the SSC in 2013.
As a sophomore in 2013, Curcio was named a First-Team All-Sunshine State Conference honoree and was also named a First-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region selection and earned Team MVP honors. This past summer, Curcio was named the co-MVP of the Northwoods Summer Collegiate League playing for the Duluth (Minn.) Huskies.
Curcio was one of eight players from the SSC named to the Preseason South Region All-American Team. He was joined on the team by Barry infielder Adrian English, Barry third/first baseman Tyler Kellman, Barry outfielder Sheehan Planes-Arteaga, Lynn pitcher Jed Vandernaald, Tampa outfielder Michael Danner, Tampa second baseman Tyler Ding and Tampa shortstop Jacob Tilliston.
Other members of the Preseason South Region All-American Team included Alabama-Huntsville outfielder Chandler Brock, Delta State outfielder Jordan Chovanec, Delta State pitcher Michael Manley, North Alabama outfielder Jake Ward, North Alabama first baseman/third baseman Dylan Boston, West Florida second baseman Kaleb Barlow and West Georgia pitcher Jamie Sexton.
Curcio and the nine-time NCAA Division II National Champion Mocs will open its 2014 season with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 1 at historic Henley Field against fourth-ranked West Florida. Saturday's season opening doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The two teams will conclude the three-game season opening series on Sunday, Feb. 2 with a single nine inning game beginning at 1 p.m.
