Late-Game Flurry Lifts Stetson to 4-1 Exhibition Win over Florida Southern
DELAND - Stetson scored three goals in the final 13 minutes Tuesday night, snapping a 1-1 tie and finishing with a 4-1 victory over Florida Southern. It was the first exhibition match of the season for both teams.
The Hatters scored the only goal of the first half just five minutes in and neither side could dent the scoreboard after that until the 73rd minute. That's when the Moccasins got the equalizer from newcomer Stephen Pratt, a senior transfer from Flagler College, on a direct free kick. However, four minutes later the Hatters went ahead again on a goal by Lucas Diniz.
Leading 2-1, Stetson put the game out of reach with two more goals in the final two minutes, with Diniz scoring again before assisting the final goal of the night.
Sophomore Cole Clingerman made three saves for Florida Southern, and Paul Ladwig also made three for Stetson.
Florida Southern will play its second exhibition game on Saturday, August 30, when it travels to Miami Gardens to take on St. Thomas.
