St. Thomas Downs FSC in Final Exhibition Game
MIAMI GARDENS - Senior midfielder Mitchell Francois gave Florida Southern the lead early in the game, but St. Thomas tied the score before halftime and added three more goals in the second half to hand the Moccasins a 4-1 setback in their final exhibition game of the season.
Francois put the Moccasins up 1-0 with a penalty kick in the 14th minute before the Bobcats got the equalizer from Fabian Heinrich in the 22nd minute off a free kick. Those two scoring plays accounted for two of the five shots the teams combined for in the first 45 minutes.
Two minutes into the second half, St. Thomas went ahead 2-1 when Mikhail Weatherly scored off a pass from Olaando Lawrence. A little over two minutes after that, Heinrich scored his second goal of the match off another free kick. Heinrich then fed Lawrence for a goal in the 67th minute providing the Bobcats with their final 4-1 score.
Florida Southern will open the regular season on Saturday at home when it hosts Webber International. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
