Moccasins End Perfect Preseason With 4-0 Win Over Webber
LAKELAND – Scoring two goals in each half, and receiving goals from four different players, Florida Southern closed out its preseason schedule with a 4-0 win over Webber International Monday night.
The Moccasins out-shot the Warriors 15-0 in the first half in route to taking their 2-0 lead at the break. Junior midfielder Taylor Cox scored the first goal in the 15th minute following one of Florida Southern’s five corner kicks in the half. Margot Chowansky kept the ball alive in the box for Florida Southern before Kristy Legoas sent it back to the middle for Cox.
The Mocs used free kicks to score their next two goals, one of them in the 43rd minute and one in the 62nd. The first was taken by Aubrey Riggins, who set up a header by senior midfielder Jackie Metz from the left side of the box. The second was taken by sophomore forward Sheila Ramos, who sent hers directly into the net from 22 yards.
Freshman midfielder Izzy Loyd finished the scoring for Florida Southern with 1:17 remaining, working free in the attacking third before looping a shot over Webber goalkeeper Jessica Meredith.
The Moccasins ended up out-shooting the Warriors 27-4 with all three of their goalkeepers taking part in the shutout. Senior Erin Moseley did not face a shot while playing the entire first half behind the back line of Gianna Conte, Christine Knudstrup, Juliana Guida, and Sydney Montgomery. Freshman Helena Norrstrom played the first 23 minutes of the second half, followed by junior Lindsey Arsenault, who went the final 22. Norrstrom stopped two shots and Arsenault stopped one.
Florida Southern will open the regular season Friday night when it hosts Georgia College at 7:30 p.m.
