LAKELAND - The Florida Southern Men's and Women's Water Ski teams will open its 2012 season this weekend as they host Rollins in back-to-back meets at Lake Grew in Polk City. Lake Grew is the site of the American Water Ski Educational Foundation Water Ski Hall of Fame and Musuem and the headquarters for USA Water Ski.
The two teams will open the season with a meet beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, before meeting once again on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. On Saturday, FSC will serve as the home team for the meet, while Rollins will be the home team for Sunday's meet.
This weekend's action is the first of three scheduled meets this fall for the Moccasins as they are also scheduled to compete at the NCWSA Eastern Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Oct. 6-7 and the NCWSA National Championships is scheduled for Oct. 17-21 in Zachary, La.
Last season, the Moccasins finished third overall at the NCWSA National Championships as they scored a combined 10,675 points (the men's and women's point totals were added together) at the national meet. The women finished in first place overall as they scored 5,855 points, while the men finished in fourth place with 4,820 points.
In the individual competition at the National Championships, sophomore Manon Costard (Marseille, France) finished in second place overall, while sophomore Lauren Morgan (Odessa, Fla.), who named last season's NCWSA Female Athlete of the Year, took home third place. On the men's side, senior Kyle Zimmerman (Barrington, Ill.) was the highest finisher among this year's returners as he tied for 12th place overall. Former Moc Alex Paradis (Quebec City, Quebec) finished in fifth place overall.
