DAYTONA BEACH - Florida Southern Women's Tennis opened the fall portion of its schedule here this weekend with several outstanding performances at the Embry-Riddle Open held at the E. William Crotty Tennis Complex.
In singles action, two Moccasins went undefeated in singles play as junior Sabine Goge (Cesis, Latavia) went 3-0 in the Gold Flight and junior Joalis Dominguez (Vero Beach, Fla.) went 3-0 in the Blue Flight.
Along with Goge and Dominguez, sophomore Christie Nunnemann (St. Simmons Island, Ga.), junior Laura Wichmann (Waldshut-Tiengen, Germany) and junior Crystal Copeland (Marietta, Ga.) all went 2-1 in the White Flight, while sophomore Jill Doerfler (Winter Park, Fla.) posted a 2-1 mark in the Eagle Flight.
Other competitors in singles for the Mocs this weekend included sophomore Magda Riutort (Petra, Spain), who went 1-1 in the Gold Flight and sophomore Olivia Spagnuolo (Andover, Mass.) went 1-2 in the Blue Flight.
In doubles competition, Goge and Riutort teamed together to go 3-0 in the Gold Flight, including earning a 9-8 (10-4) win in its final doubles match against ERAU's Hui-I Huang and Kristina Marova. Goge and Riutort won its other doubles matches 8-4 and 8-3. In addition to Goge/Riutort, Spagnuolo teamed with Wichmann to go 1-2 in the Gold Flight, while the team of Nunnemann/Doerfler went 1-1 and the team of Dominguez/Copeland went 1-2 at the Blue Flight.
The Mocs will return to action on Sept. 27-30 as they host the ITA Women's South Regional Tournament. The event will be held at the Beerman Tennis Complex in Lakeland on Edgewood Drive.
