For a group of Florida Southern baseball players, the 2017 season didn't end at the NCAA South Region Tournament. Nine Florida Southern players went on to continue playing in various collegiate summer leagues.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Rising senior Omar Villaman was named the Most Valuable Player of the Florida League Championship after helping lead the Sanford River Rats to the championship of the collegiate summer league.
Mitch Reeves has been selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft. The senior outfielder was the 972nd player chosen overall. He joins teammate Jake Walsh, who was picked in the 16th round earlier today by the St. Louis Cardinals, as Major League draftees.

He joins teammates Jake Walsh, who was picked in the 16th round by the St. Louis Cardinals, and Mitch Reeves, who was a 32nd round pick by the Cleveland Indians, as Florida Southern players drafted by Major Baseball in today's portion of the draft.
CLEVELAND, OH - Florida Southern College athletics continued its long tradition of success with a 16th place finish in the final standings of the 2016-17 Learfield Directors' Cup, which ranks all athletic programs at the NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA levels based on their success in athletic competition.

CLEVELAND, MS - West Alabama scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Florida Southern, 7-6, here Saturday and eliminate the Moccasins on day three of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament at the Tim & Nancy Harvey Stadium at Dave "Boo" Ferriss Field. The Moccasins end their season with a 35-17 record while the Tigers will take a 36-19 record into their game on Sunday against the winner of the Tampa/Nova Southeastern Saturday night game.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Jake Walsh picked up his second South Region Pitcher of the Year recognition as the junior righthander was so honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Thursday. Walsh was similarly honored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association on Thursday. Also named to the NCBWA All-South first team were reliever Cameron Hanes and outfielder Mitch Reeves. Catcher Austin Mauer was voted to the second team while outfielder Cody Burgess was an honorable mention selection.
CLEVELAND, MS – Delta State rallied from a 7-3 deficit to come back and defeat Florida Southern, 9-7, in winners' bracket action here Friday on the second day of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament at the Tim & Nancy Harvey Stadium at Dave "Boo" Ferriss Field. The loss drops the Moccasins into an elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m. against West Alabama, which earlier downed Miles, 17-15, to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament.

MELBOURNE – Six Moccasins have been named to the 2017 All-Sunshine State Baseball Teams as voted upon by the league head coaches and announced today by the the league office. Florida Southern had five players named to the All-SSC first-team, matching the University of Tampa for most first-team honorees.
MELBOURNE, FL - Jake Walsh has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 14. The announcement was made this morning by the league office. It marks the second time this season Walsh has earned the award as he was similarly honor on Feb. 13.
SAINT LEO - Senior Mitch Reeves slammed three of the Moccasins' six home runs while Jake Walsh struck out 10 batters in 5.1 innings as 23rd-ranked Florida Southern defeated Saint Leo, 11-5, in game one of a doubleheader here Sunday at Thomas B. Southard Stadium on the Saint Leo campus. In game two, Saint Leo jumped out to an 8-1 lead, but the Moccasins rallied back with four homers to tie the game, but Saint Leo prevailed 10-9 in 10 innings to earn the split of the twinbill. FSC finishes the regular season with a 34-15 overall and 12-12 mark in the SSC while the Lions end their year at 23-26 and 8-16.

With the loss, 19th-ranked FSC falls to 30-13 overall and 8-10 in the SSC while the 22nd-ranked Sharks move to 31-15 overall and 14-7 in the league.
