NCWBA Names Reeves to Preseason All-America Team

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has named Florida Southern College's Mitch Reeves to its preseason All-America team. The senior was named a third-team selection.

Reeves was named to the All-South second-team last season by both the NCBWA and the American Baseball Coaches Association and was a first-team All-Sunshine State Conference honoree at third base, but is expected to start in the outfield for Head Coach Lance Niekro's Moccasins this season.

Starting 48 of the Mocs' 49 games last season, Reeves was second on the team in several categories including a .364 batting average, 11 homers, 48 runs batted in, 54 runs scored, and .596 slugging percentage. He was tied for the team lead with 24 multi-hit games and led the Mocs with 16 games in which he had two or more RBI.

Reeves came to Florida Southern after one season at Seminole State College in Lake Mary, FL following one season at High Point University in North Carolina. A 2013 graduate of Oviedo High School, Reeves was named to the All-State squad as a senior.

The NCBWA also released it preseason national poll on Wednesday and the Moccasins were listed as receiving votes. Collegiate Baseball Magazine lists Florida Southern at No. 20 in its preseason poll released Jan. 19. In the Sunshine State Conference preseason Coaches Poll, the Moccasins were picked to finish third.

Florida Southern wrapped up the 2016 season with a 31-17 overall record and placed third in the SSC standings with a 14-10 league mark.

Florida Southern opens the 2017 season with a three-game series at the University of West Florida, playing a single game at 6 pm ET Friday, Feb. 3, and a doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm. The home opener comes Feb. 10 at 6 pm against Delta State University at Henley Field.
