CARY, NC - Logan Browning, Cody Burgess, and Hayden Marze were named to the NCAA Division II National All-Tournament today following Augustana's 3-2 win over Columbus State in the national championship game. The Moccasins were eliminated by Columbus State on Friday to finish third in the eight-team national tournament.
Browning made the team as an outfielder but could have easily have been named as an all-tournament pitcher. Browning collected five hits in 12 at-bats for a .417 average in his three starts in right field. Three of his five hits were doubles and the Lakeland native drove in five runs while posting a .500 on-base percentage. He also walked once and was hit by a pitch. On the mound, Browning was 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA. He struck out 22 and walked two in his 13.0 innings pitched.
Burgess also made the team as an outfielder after knocking seven base hits in 22 at-bats, including a home run, for a .318 average. The Winter Garden, Fla. native started all five of the Moccasins' games at the tournament and was perfect in 11 chances in the outfield. Burgess drove in six runs and recorded a .455 slugging percentage.
Marze was selected as the All-Tournament designated hitter after clubbing three home runs and going 7-for-19 at the plate for a .368 average. The Sunset, LA native also scored five runs and stole a base. The three home runs helped Marze set the FSC school record with 22 on the season. He posted a .895 slugging percentage in his five starts as the Mocs' DH and had a .455 on-base percentage with two walks and one stolen base.
Florida Southern completed the season with a 45-11-1 record.
