LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College men's basketball head coach Mike Donnelly has announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign. The Moccasins, who went 21-11 a year ago and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, will play 17 home games this year.
The schedule includes three regular-season tournaments at Jenkins Field House, as well as an always-difficult Sunshine State Conference slate. Florida Southern's schedule includes four teams that advanced to and won at least one game in NCAA Tournament a year ago (Barry, Bloomfield, Eckerd, and Merrimack). Both Barry and Bloomfield advanced to their respective regional title games, with Barry advancing to the Elite Eight.
"It is obviously extremely important to play well at home, so I am very pleased that we were able to schedule 17 games in front of our terrific fans and loyal supporters," said Donnelly. "We have very high expectations for our team, so our goal was to schedule and play against the best competition possible. Our non-league and conference schedules will be very difficult and challenging."
The 2018-19 campaign begins with the annual GSC/SSC Classic as the Mocs will face both West Alabama (Nov. 9) and Delta State (Nov. 10) at home. After making a trip to Southern New Hampshire (Nov. 17), Florida Southern returns to Lakeland for the annual Terrace Hotel Classic with games against Merrimack (Nov. 23) and Stonehill (Nov. 24).
Sunshine State Conference action begins with a home game against Tampa (Nov. 28) and Embry-Riddle (Dec. 5). The non-conference slate will conclude with three-straight home games against Lindenwood (Dec. 15), Cedarville (Dec. 18), and Bloomfield (Dec. 19). The final two games of the seven-game homestand are part of the Mocs Christmas Classic.
The remainder of the schedule comes against SSC foes with home games against Lynn (Jan. 5), Eckerd (Jan. 16), Saint Leo (Jan. 23), Nova Southeastern (Feb. 2), Florida Tech (Feb. 6), Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 13) and Barry (Feb. 23).
The regular season ends with a home contest against Rollins (March 2) on Senior Night, with the SSC Tournament the following week. Quarterfinal matchups will take place at the higher-seeded team on March 6, with the semifinals and championship at Nova Southeastern from March 9-10.
