    Coultas Wins Third SSC Weekly Award of the Season MELBOURNE, Fla. – After winning the 2017 Matlock Collegiate Classic with a near-record score, Florida Southern’s John Coultas has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for February 20. The junior from Valrico, Florida shot a 14-under par 202 to head a field of 75 golfers in the Moccasins’ first tournament of the spring.

    First National Poll of the Spring Has Moccasin Men's Golf Team Ranked No. 4 NORMAN, Okla. – The first Division II men’s golf national poll of the spring has been announced and the Florida Southern Moccasins are now No. 4 in the February 17 Bushnell Coaches Poll. The Moccasins remain one of four Sunshine State Conference teams ranked in the top five, and all five of those teams recently played and finished in the top five of the Matlock Collegiate Classic.

    Coultas Claims Matlock Individual Title, VanDerLaan Ties Single Round Scoring Record, and Mocs' Strong Finish Puts Them Fifth Behind West Florida’s Record-Breaking Score LAKELAND – What a day it was for the Florida Southern Moccasins and West Florida Argonauts in the final round of the 2017 Matlock Collegiate Classic. Florida Southern’s John Coultas came from behind to win the individual title with a near-record score of 14-under par 202, teammate John VanDerLaan tied a tournament record with a 64 on Tuesday, and top-ranked West Florida blew past the previous team scoring record to finish the Matlock at 34-under par with a winning margin of 18 shots over No. 5 Nova Southeastern.

    Moccasins Come Back in Round Two While Two Teams Chase Tournament Scoring Record on Day One of Matlock Classic LAKELAND – The day did not start well for Florida Southern head men’s golf coach Doug Gordin, but it got a little bit better by the end of play Monday at the 36th annual Matlock Collegiate Classic. Down one golfer before they could even get started, the Moccasins fought back in the afternoon’s second round with a two-under par 286 that left them in seventh place, while top-ranked West Florida and No. 5 Nova Southeastern pulled ahead with record-breaking scores that had them in the top two positions in the 15-team field.

    Loaded Field Features the Best of the Best at This Year's Matlock Collegiate Classic LAKELAND – There will be no easing back into the schedule for the Florida Southern men’s golf team as the Moccasins return to competition this week in the 36th annual Matlock Collegiate Classic. Hosted by Florida Southern every year since 1982, the tournament typically draws the best Division II teams in the country, and this year’s field may be the strongest yet. A total of 15 teams will be competing Monday and Tuesday at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, with two rounds the first day and one the second. Both days will have 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts.

    Final Poll of the Fall Has Florida Southern Men's Golf Team Ranked No. 3 NORMAN, Okla. – With the fall portion of the schedule now complete, the Florida Southern men’s golf will head into the spring semester ranked No. 3 in the country according to the Bushnell Division II Coaches Poll released on Friday, November 18. The Moccasins trail only West Florida and Lynn in the final fall rankings, which had five schools from the Sunshine State Conference among the top seven.

    Coultas Edges VanDerLaan in Playoff at Division II National Preview; Moccasins Finish Second as a Team REUNION, Fla. – John Coultas made it two wins in a row Tuesday but had to defeat teammate John VanDerLaan in a playoff before he could lift the trophy; and though Florida Southern finished second to Lynn University in the team standings, the Moccasins are looking forward to a return trip to the Watson Course at Reunion in May. Finishing play at the NCAA Division II National Preview Tournament with a 15-under par 849, 2nd-ranked Florida Southern ended up four shots behind #4 Lynn, but got a 1-2 finish from its two returning All-Americans to finish six shots ahead of top-ranked West Florida.

    Tight Race at the Top After Two Rounds of Division II National Preview; Lynn Leads FSC by One Shot REUNION, Fla. – The appropriately named Division II National Preview began at Reunion’s Watson Course Monday morning and the Florida Southern Moccasins again looked right at home while playing with the best teams in the country. Finishing day one and round two of the tournament at 15-under par, the Moccasins trail only Lynn University by a single shot going into Tuesday’s final round as they seek back-to-back wins for the first time in 16 years.

    13-Shot Win for Moccasins, Playoff Win for Coultas at Saint Leo Invitational SAINT LEO – There was no drama for 2nd-ranked Florida Southern as a team on Tuesday at the Saint Leo Invitational where the Moccasins picked up their first win of the 2016-17 season by 13 shots over #8 South Carolina-Aiken. Junior John Coultas did add some excitement to the mix, however, by winning a playoff over Cabrick Waters of Limestone (SC) to claim tournament medalist honors and his fifth career individual win.

    Twin 279's Have Moccasins Up by 17 Shots After Second Round of Saint Leo Invitational SAINT LEO – After starting the season with a tournament at Duke University with some of the top Division I teams in the country, Florida Southern was a lot closer to home for its second tournament and the Moccasins immediately re-asserted themselves. Shooting a nine-under par 279 in the first round and adding another 279 in the second round, 2nd-ranked Florida Southern ended day one of the Saint Leo Invitational hosted by the top-ranked Lions with a 17-stroke lead over Limestone (SC).

    John VanDerLaan Honored as SSC Player-of-the-Week in Men's Golf Men’s golfer John VanDerLaan is Florida Southern’s first Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week for the 2016-17 academic year following his season-opening performance at the Rod Myers Invitational last weekend. The junior from Southbury, Connecticut was the Moccasins’ top golfer in a field of 14 teams and 82 total participants in the annual tournament hosted by Duke University.

    Florida Southern 13th After Day One at Duke; Play Suspended With One Group on #18 DURHAM, N.C. – Florida Southern began the 2016-17 season Saturday at the Rod Myers Invitational hosted by Duke University and was led by its two returning All-Americans, juniors John VanDerLaan and John Coultas. VanDerLaan turned in scores of 74 and 73, while Coultas has a 76 and 72 to wrap up day one of the tournament separated by one stroke in the individual standings.

    Men's Golf Team Ranked #2 in Bushnell Golfweek Preseason National Poll NORMAN, Okla. – The Florida Southern men's golf team is ranked #2 in the nation in the Bushnell Golfweek Division II Preseason Coaches Poll with schools from the Sunshine State Conference holding down the top four spots in the rankings. The Moccasins trail only defending national champion Saint Leo, and are just ahead of Lynn and Barry. All four schools received at least one first-place vote.
