  • John VanDerLaan Named SSC Player-of-the-Week in Men's Golf

    MELBOURNE, FL – Florida Southern’s John VanDerLaan is the Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week for men’s golf following his individual win in last week’s Copperhead Championship at Innisbrook Resort. VanDerLaan’s performance also helped the 3rd-ranked Moccasins win the team title by three shots over top-ranked West Florida.

    INNISBROOK, FL – It should come as no surprise perhaps, that a tournament bearing the name of one type of dangerous snake should be won by a school bearing another. The Florida Southern Moccasins came from behind Tuesday at Innisbrook Resort to win the 2017 Copperhead Championship, behind a pair of brothers who finished in the top-five together for the first time in their college careers.

    INNISBROOK, FL – When Florida Southern won the NCAA Division II National Championship last spring, it was tournaments like the one the Moccasins are playing this week that helped prepare them for what they faced that final day of the season. With the all of the top five ranked teams in the nation competing, along with seven of the top-10, and 10 of the top-25, Florida Southern finished the first day of the Copperhead Championship tied for third.

    PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – With Michael VanDerLaan and John VanDerLaan each shooting a one-under par 71, Jacob Penny and John Coultas turning in scores of 72 and 73, and Christian Anderson adding his name to the list of eagles, Florida Southern wrapped up play in the GolfRank Invitational with a 287 that put the Moccasins third in the final tournament standings.

    PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL – Behind a pair of eagles in round two from John VanDerLaan, and a 70 in round one from John Coultas, No. 3 ranked Florida Southern put together a strong day of golf at Nova Southeastern’s GolfRank Invitational, and stands second in the tournament with a two-under par 574 with one round remaining.

    NORMAN, OK – In the first regular season poll of the 2017-18 season, the Florida Southern men’s golf team is ranked No. 3 in the country, sitting behind only West Florida and Lynn. The Moccasins remained well ahead of Barry and Nova Southeastern, which rounded out the top-five in the September 29 edition of the poll.

    MELBOURNE, FL – After playing their first tournament of the fall, the Florida Southern Moccasins already have their first Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week with John Coultas bringing home that award following the Griffin Invitational at Streamsong. The senior from Valrico has now won the SSC Men’s Golf Player-of-the-Week five times in his career.

    BOWLING GREEN, FL – Top-ranked Florida Southern got a 67 from senior John Coultas in the completion of round two Tuesday, and a 72 from junior Michael VanDerLaan in round three to jump two spots in the final standings for a 4th-place finish at the Griffin Invitational hosted by Saint Leo at Streamsong Resort.

    BOWLING GREEN, FL – A new season has begun for the top-ranked and defending national champion Florida Southern men’s golf team, but the Moccasins will have to wait a little while longer to see where they stand after the first day of the Griffin Invitational. Florida Southern shot a 290 in Monday’s first round but the second round was suspended due to darkness.

    LAKELAND, FL (9/14/17) - We are pleased to share with you that as of this morning we now have power in almost all buildings across campus. What wonderful news! We are still waiting for power to come on in Colony Arms Apartments, Roberts Academy, and a few FSC houses surrounding the campus. We will continue to communicate updates as they become available and will accommodate any student who lives in one of these locations if power is still not restored when they return to campus.
  • Defending National Champion Men's Golf Team Begins New Season Ranked No. 1 in GCAA Preseason Poll

    NORMAN, OK – The Florida Southern men's golf team will open the 2017-18 season in the same position it held at the end of last season. Three months after winning the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship, the Moccasins are ranked number one in the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) Division II Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Gordin to Receive Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio Wesleyan

    Florida Southern men's golf coach Doug Gordin has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumni Citation from the Ohio Wesleyan Alumni Association, the highest award presented by that university's organization. It is reserved for those whose achievements in professional pursuits and in public service rise to extraordinary levels, and is presented annually at Ohio Wesleyan's Reunion Weekend in May.
