Two Moccasins Named Semifinalists for Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player-of-the-Year Award

NORMAN, OK – Two Florida Southern Moccasins were among the 30 golfers named as semifinalists for the 2017 Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player-of-the-Year Award, which was announced Friday, April 28 by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Making the list from Florida Southern were juniors John Coultas and John VanDerLaan, and 10 of the 30 golfers were from the Sunshine State Conference.
Battle-Tested Moccasins Ready for 2017 SSC Men’s Golf Championships

The Florida Southern men’s golf team begins postseason play this weekend at the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golf Championships at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, with Florida Tech serving as host for the 3-day tournament. It’s the third time the SSC Championships have been held at Duran with the first two coming back-to-back in 2007 and 2008. It will be the Moccasins’ second visit to Duran this year, with their first resulting in a win at the Panther Invitational in early March.

Brothers VanDerLaan Help Moccasins Stand Sixth After Two Rounds of The Battle at the Shores

MIAMI BEACH, FL – Junior John VanDerLaan was the only golfer in the field Monday to have two rounds in the 60s and held the lead for most of the day. Only a tournament record 11-under par by Nova Southeastern’s Juan Jose Guerra in the second round kept VanDerLaan from finishing the day there. With VanDerLaan now in second place individually, and still four strokes ahead of everyone but Guerra, 4th-ranked Florida Southern ended day one of The Battle at the Shores sixth out of 16 teams competing.

NORMAN, OK – The Florida Southern men’s golf team remains in the top five of the new Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll that was announced on Friday, March 31. In fact, all of the top five from the previous poll on March 10 are still in the top five, with the University of West Florida and Lynn University still holding the top two positions.
Day One of Bobcat Invitational Ends With Florida Southern Tied for Fifth

EATONTON, GA – With junior John VanDerLaan and sophomore Christian Anderson both in the individual top-20, and a 4-stroke jump by sophomore Michael VanDerLaan in the second round, the 3rd-ranked Florida Southern men’s golf team finished the first day of the Bobcat Invitational in a 3-way tie for fifth out of 17 schools.
Coultas Selected to Represent the United States in 2017 Arnold Palmer Cup

ORLANDO, FL – Florida Southern junior John Coultas has been selected to play in the 2017 Arnold Palmer Cup representing the United States in the annual Ryder Cup-style competition that will be played June 9-11 at Atlanta Athletic Club. The Arnold Palmer Cup matches 10 of the best college golfers from the U.S. against 10 of the best from Europe.
John VanDerLaan Wins SSC Golfer-of-the-Week for Second Time This Season

65 by John VanDerLaan Has Florida Southern Fourth After One Round of Southeastern Collegiate

VALDOSTA, GA – Junior John VanDerLaan had an opening-round 65 on Sunday, a score that would normally put a golfer in the lead, but with the type of field he and the Moccasins are facing at this year’s Southeastern Collegiate, it was only good for second. That 65, however, was still enough to carry 3rd-ranked Florida Southern to fourth place at the end of the day, with the Moccasins trailing first-place Florida Tech by 11 shots.
Moccasin Men's Golf Team Moves Back to No. 3 in March 10 National Poll

NORMAN, Okla. – Following its win at the Panther Invitational hosted by Florida Tech earlier in the week, the Florida Southern men’s golf team has moved up one spot in the March 10 Bushnell Coaches Poll. That puts the Moccasins back where they were the spring semester started as they head to Georgia this weekend for the Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State.
