    LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College recognized its student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department staff at its annual Athletic Academic Awards Banquet on Tuesday night. More than 500 student-athletes, coaches, staff, and invited guests attended the event at Jenkins Field House.

  • Blum Selected as SSC Men's Swimming Coach-of-the-Year

    MELBOURNE, FL – Florida Southern’s Mike Blum has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimming Coach-of-the-Year in a vote of the league’s coaches following the NCAA National Championships. It’s the second year in a row Blum has won the award and the sixth year in a row it’s gone to Florida Southern. Blum shares the 2017 award with Florida Tech’s Justin Andrade.
  • Men’s Swimming Team Moves Up to Fourth at NCAA Division II National Finals for Sixth Straight Top-5 Finish

    BIRMINGHAM, AL – With a chance to finish in the top-five at the NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships for the sixth year in a row, senior backstroke swimmers Marco Palacios and Evan Coleman made sure the Moccasins would indeed do it again. Palacios won the silver medal in the 200-back and got scoring help from Coleman in the consolation finals, and a bronze medal from the 400-freestyle relay team that also included Palacios moved the Moccasins into fourth place at the end of the night. Florida Southern is the only team to finish in the top-five at the Division II Finals each of the last six years.

    BIRMINGHAM, AL – A third-place finish by senior Marco Palacios in the 100-backstroke gave Florida Southern another medal to add to its count, senior Antonio Nunez-Alvarez reached the championship finals of another of his individual events, and seven other Moccasins claimed either All-American or honorable mention All-American awards on the third day of the NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Those totals helped the Moccasins remain in fifth place overall,and well within striking distance of third, with one day and five events remaining.
  • 200-Freestyle Relay Team Gives Florida Southern First Medal of 2017 Men’s National Finals as Mocs Remain Fifth

    BIRMINGHAM, AL – Florida Southern began the second day of the NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in fifth place but still looking for its first medal of the meet. It didn’t take long on Thursday night to fix that. While setting a school record in the process, the Moccasins’ 200-freestyle relay team finished third for a bronze medal, and by the end of the night another record had been broken by sophomore Matthew Holmes in the 400-IM as Florida Southern remained fifth overall.

  • NCAA Division II Men's Swimming Championships Begin Wednesday

    BIRMINGHAM, AL – The 2017 NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships begin Wednesday morning in Birmingham, Alabama at the Crossplex and 10 qualifiers from the Florida Southern men’s team will be there seeking to add to the program’s list of national titles. This is the second time the city of Birmingham has hosted the Division II National Finals, and the last time they were here in 2013, the Moccasins posted the first of their back-to-back national runner-up finishes.
  • Florida Southern Lands Eight on All-SSC Men's Swimming Team

    MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern had a league-high eight swimmers named to the 2017 All-Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimming Team that was voted on by the league coaches. Two of those, sophomores Matthew Holmes and Luka Planinc, were First Team selections, while seniors Diego Gimenez, Antonio Nunez-Alvarez and Marco Palacios, and juniors Noah Franz and Luis Jasso were on the Second Team. Junior Luka Matacin was an honorable mention selection.
  • 10 Men's Swimmers Selected for NCAA Division II National Finals

    INDIANAPOLIS - A total of 10 Florida Southern men’s swimmers have been selected for the NCAA Division II National Finals, headlined by automatic qualifiers Marco Palacios and Luis Jasso who each hold top-five national times in at least one event. The National Finals are being held this year in Birmingham, Alabama, March 8-11 at the CrossPlex as part of the Division II Winter Sports Festival.

    ORLANDO, FL – Senior Marco Palacios finished off another gold medal backstroke sweep Sunday and junior Luis Jasso pushed one of the school’s breaststroke records to a higher level on the final day of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimming Championships. That allowed Florida Southern to secure second place in the team standings behind Nova Southeastern.

    The 2017 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships begin Thursday at the Orlando YMCA, and the Florida Southern Moccasins go into the meet as the 4-time defending league champions. They’ll face plenty of competition too as the 7th-ranked Moccasins are one of five SSC teams ranked in the top-20 of the final regular season CSCAA national poll.

  • Final Regular Season CSCAA National Men's Swimming Poll Has Moccasins Ranked 7th

    Florida Southern has moved up two spots in the final NCAA Division II regular season poll conducted by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America and will go into the postseason ranked No. 7 in the country. The Moccasins have been ranked in the top-10 in all four CSCAA polls this season.
  • Swimming Teams Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award

    The Florida Southern swimming teams have been honored by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America for their academic performance during the fall semester. Both the men and women finished the first semester this season with grade point averages over 3.00 and were ranked among the top-25 teams in Division II for team GPA, earning them the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award.
  • Back-and-Forth Meet Decided by Final Race as Indian River State Edges No. 9 Florida Southern 106-99

    LAKELAND, FLA. – With the two teams never separated by more than eight points, and having split each of the first 10 races held on Friday, Indian River State was able to pull out a 106-99 meet victory over 9th-ranked Florida Southern by winning the 400-freestyle relay finale. It was the final regular season meet of the year for the Moccasins.

    DAVIE, FLA. – Senior Marco Palacios won all three of his individual races Saturday, and the Moccasins got a pair of seconds from sophomore Matthew Holmes and junior Luis Jasso, though 2nd-ranked Nova Southeastern defeated No. 9 Florida Southern 150-112.
  • Holmes Wins SSC Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week Award

    Florida Southern’s Matthew Holmes has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer-of-the-Week for January 9 following his performance in the Moccasins’ dual meet against Emory University on January 7. The sophomore from Rockledge, Florida won all three of his individual races to become the first Moccasin this year to go 3-for-3 in a meet.
  • Men’s Swimming Meet Decided by Final Event as Emory Pulls Out 8-Point Win Over Florida Southern

    LAKELAND – Ninth-ranked Florida Southern won eight of the 12 individual events held Saturday afternoon, which included three victories by sophomore Matthew Holmes, and held a 1-point lead going into the final race of the meet before Division III No. 2 Emory won the 200-freestyle relay to pull out a 135-127 win over the Moccasins.

    With Christmas break now underway for the Florida Southern swimming teams, the Moccasin men remained No. 9 in the latest Division II national poll released by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The top-10 teams remained largely intact from the November 16 poll, with only one team dropping below that level. Florida Southern was among five teams to hold the same position in the December 21 poll that it held in November.

In between, the Moccasins also had four other swimmers reach NCAA provisional qualifying times on day three of the Spartan Invitational, with Florida Southern remaining in fourth place.

Tampa, the host school for the 4-day meet, leads Indian River State by 19½ points, and Nova Southeastern is third.
  • Men's Swimming Team Back in Action This Weekend at Spartan Invitational in Clearwater

    The Florida Southern men's swimming team returns to action this weekend when it travels to Clearwater for the University of Tampa Spartan Invitational. The 4-day event is being held at the Doyle Aquatic Center at the Long Center, located at 1501 North Belcher Road and runs from Friday through Monday. Similar to the format used at the conference and national tournaments in the spring, the Spartan Invitational will feature 19 different events, with preliminaries during the morning sessions and finals in those events each night.
