Blum Selected as SSC Men's Swimming Coach-of-the-Year March 23, 2017 MELBOURNE, FL – Florida Southern’s Mike Blum has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimming Coach-of-the-Year in a vote of the league’s coaches following the NCAA National Championships. It’s the second year in a row Blum has won the award and the sixth year in a row it’s gone to Florida Southern. Blum shares the 2017 award with Florida Tech’s Justin Andrade.
Men’s Swimming Team Moves Up to Fourth at NCAA Division II National Finals for Sixth Straight Top-5 Finish March 11, 2017 BIRMINGHAM, AL – With a chance to finish in the top-five at the NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships for the sixth year in a row, senior backstroke swimmers Marco Palacios and Evan Coleman made sure the Moccasins would indeed do it again. Palacios won the silver medal in the 200-back and got scoring help from Coleman in the consolation finals, and a bronze medal from the 400-freestyle relay team that also included Palacios moved the Moccasins into fourth place at the end of the night. Florida Southern is the only team to finish in the top-five at the Division II Finals each of the last six years.
Palacios Adds to Medal Count in 100-Back and Nunez-Alvarez is All-American Again as Moccasin Men’s Swimming Team Remains Fifth at Division II National Finals March 10, 2017 BIRMINGHAM, AL – A third-place finish by senior Marco Palacios in the 100-backstroke gave Florida Southern another medal to add to its count, senior Antonio Nunez-Alvarez reached the championship finals of another of his individual events, and seven other Moccasins claimed either All-American or honorable mention All-American awards on the third day of the NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. Those totals helped the Moccasins remain in fifth place overall,and well within striking distance of third, with one day and five events remaining.
200-Freestyle Relay Team Gives Florida Southern First Medal of 2017 Men’s National Finals as Mocs Remain Fifth March 9, 2017 BIRMINGHAM, AL – Florida Southern began the second day of the NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in fifth place but still looking for its first medal of the meet. It didn’t take long on Thursday night to fix that. While setting a school record in the process, the Moccasins’ 200-freestyle relay team finished third for a bronze medal, and by the end of the night another record had been broken by sophomore Matthew Holmes in the 400-IM as Florida Southern remained fifth overall.

NCAA Division II Men's Swimming Championships Begin Wednesday March 7, 2017 BIRMINGHAM, AL – The 2017 NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships begin Wednesday morning in Birmingham, Alabama at the Crossplex and 10 qualifiers from the Florida Southern men’s team will be there seeking to add to the program’s list of national titles. This is the second time the city of Birmingham has hosted the Division II National Finals, and the last time they were here in 2013, the Moccasins posted the first of their back-to-back national runner-up finishes.
Florida Southern Lands Eight on All-SSC Men's Swimming Team March 2, 2017 MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern had a league-high eight swimmers named to the 2017 All-Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimming Team that was voted on by the league coaches. Two of those, sophomores Matthew Holmes and Luka Planinc, were First Team selections, while seniors Diego Gimenez, Antonio Nunez-Alvarez and Marco Palacios, and juniors Noah Franz and Luis Jasso were on the Second Team. The Moccasins have been ranked in the top-10 in all four CSCAA polls this season.
Swimming Teams Earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award January 26, 2017 The Florida Southern swimming teams have been honored by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America for their academic performance during the fall semester. Both the men and women finished the first semester this season with grade point averages over 3.00 and were ranked among the top-25 teams in Division II for team GPA, earning them the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award.
Back-and-Forth Meet Decided by Final Race as Indian River State Edges No. 9 Florida Southern 106-99 January 20, 2017 LAKELAND, FLA. – With the two teams never separated by more than eight points, and having split each of the first 10 races held on Friday, Indian River State was able to pull out a 106-99 meet victory over 9th-ranked Florida Southern by winning the 400-freestyle relay finale. Holmes Wins SSC Men's Swimmer-of-the-Week Award January 9, 2017 Florida Southern’s Matthew Holmes has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer-of-the-Week for January 9 following his performance in the Moccasins’ dual meet against Emory University on January 7. The sophomore from Rockledge, Florida won all three of his individual races to become the first Moccasin this year to go 3-for-3 in a meet.
