ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – The Florida Southern men's tennis team opened its Spring Season here at Flagler College and fell, 6-3, to the Saints.
The Saints (1-0), grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles and won four of the six singles matched to record the victory.
The Moccasins' duo of Laurent Mailloux and Miguel Alvare-Hevia captured an 8-4 win over Flagler's Luca Bolla and Willy Hasselberg at #2 for FSC's lone doubles win. At number one, Lukas Storck and Felipe Carvalha downed FSC's Jose de Sario and Brian Slivonik, 8-2, while at number three, Flagler's Hermann Gertmann and Konstantin Dustmann dispatched Fabian Lundberg and Derek Bell by an 8-4 tally.
In singles, Bolla downed Slivonik 6-1, 6-0 at number three while Daniel Arrien defeated FSC's Matt Matsuyama, 6-4, 6-1 to give Flagler a 4-1 lead. Storck then clinched the match victory for Flagler with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lundberg at number one.
Mailloux then picked up a win for Florida Southern with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 triumph over the Saints' Carvalha at number four singles. Gertmann then topped de Sario, 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 at number two before Alvarez-Hevia got the Moccasins' final win with a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-5 decision over Dustmann.
The Moccasins play again Saturday morning at 10:30 at Division I Stetson University in Deland.
