DAYTONA BEACH – No. 10 Embry-Riddle swept doubles play and went on to defeat 38th-ranked Florida Southern, 7-2, here Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex on the ERAU campus. The loss drops the Moccasins to 10-9 on the season while the Eagles improve to 9-4.
Andres Donayre and Juan Ortiz Couder def. Oscar Soderlund and Fabian Lundberg at number two doubles for Embry-Riddle's first win while Carlos Becke and Deepak Vishavkarma, the 7th-ranked doubles team in the NCAA Division II, downed Miguel Alvarez-Hevia and Jose de Sario, 8-2, at number one. Luke de Caires and Rodolfo Arreygue completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Blaine Miller and Derek Bell at number three.
De Caires kept the momentum rolling for the Eagles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Soderlund at number four singles while Counder clinched the win for Embry-Riddle with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Lundberg at number one.
Donayre then topped Lennart Vossgäetter, 6-1, 6-0 at number four before Alvarez-Hevia got the Moccasins on the scoreboard with his 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 win versus Arreygue at number three.
Mickael Faucher took the final match for Embry-Riddle with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 triumph over Miller at number six while de Sario picked up FSC's other win, defeating Becke, 7-5, 6-4 at number two.
Florida Southern closes out the regular season with a 10 a.m. match at Rollins in Winter Park on Saturday. The match is a make-up of the originally scheduled match that was rained out on March 4.
