NEW ORLEANS - Freshman Mason Jones and senior Bobby Ormsby have been named to the All-South Region Team for the 2018 outdoor track and field season as selected by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Both runners earn the distinction in two different events.
Jones earned his honors in the 5000- and 10,000-meter races while Ormsby was an honoree in the 1500- and 5000-meters events.
The two were also recognized as a top performer with Jones being recognized in the 10,000 and Ormsby in the 5000.
Jones' fastest 5000-meter time came in the UT Ryan McCall Invitation with a 14:52.82 showing on March 2 which is the freshman record at FSC. His fastest 10,000 meter came on April 14, setting a school record with a 30:59.26 time at the Bison Outdoor Classic. The time was the second fastest posted by any freshman in the NCAA Division II this past season.
Ormsby set a school record the 5000 meters with a 14:37.76 at the Pepsi Florida Relays on March 29. His time of 3:51.60 on April 27 at the UNF Invitational is the fourth fastest in school history.
The top-five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top-three relay teams.
