Ormsby Starts With Win; Men's Cross Country Places Second

LAKELAND, FL – Bobby Ormsby opened his senior season on a high note, taking first place at the Holloway Park Preseason Festival here Saturday at the Holloway Park and Nature Preserve. The men's team took second place in the Division II portion of the event with 39 points.

Ormsby completed the 5K course in a time of 15:44.5, almost seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Shaun Bullock of Embry-Riddle University. It is Ormsby's first collegiate career victory after tallying four runner-up and four third-place finishes in his career at Florida Southern.

Freshman Mason Jones was the next Moccasin to cross the finish line, taking sixth place at 16:10.7, while junior Dean McGregor was the next FSC runner, coming in at 16:27.8 to place ninth.

Freshman Josh Wagner took 12th place for Florida Southern at 16:32.6, followed by sophomore Warran Grajalez (13th, 16:36.5); freshman Evan Williams (16th, 16:39.6) and freshman David Sievert (38th, 17:45.7).

Rounding out the Moccasin contingent were senior Christian Beauchemin (42nd, 17:56.5), sophomore Brandon Williams (48th, 18:26.8); senior Oswaldo Zapata (63rd, 19:27.4).

A total of 90 individuals ran in the early morning race. There were 10 teams entered, five Division II schools and four in the NAIA/Small School category. The University of South Florida was the lone NCAA Division I program in the competition.

Embry-Riddle, in its first season as a full member in the Sunshine State Conference, grabbed top honors in the Division II portion of the race with 27 points, 12 ahead of the Moccasins. Rounding out the Division II schools were Saint Leo (64), Morehouse (108), and Rollins (155).

In the NAIA/Small School, fellow Festival host school, Southeastern, claimed the top prize with 39 points, five ahead of Webber. Other schools competing in this division, included Warner (64) and Florida College (70).

Florida Southern will have two weeks off from competition to prepare for the Trevecca D2 Showcase on Sept. 23 in Nashville, TN.

The Moccasins will return to Holloway Park on Sept. 29 for the flrunners Invitational. Florida Southern College will also be the host school when the NCAA South Regional Meet comes to Holloway Park on Nov. 4.
