    Lynn Comes From Behind Twice To Win Two One-Run Games in Conclusion of Weekend Softball Series AUBURNDALE – Florida Southern held a 2-0 lead in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader and 1-0 in the second, but saw Lynn come from behind in each of them with go-ahead runs in the sixth inning to come away with 3-2 and 2-1 wins over the Moccasins. That allowed the Knights (8-5, 5-1 Sunshine State Conference) to take two-of-three in the series with the Moccasins (8-5, 4-2).

    Klumpp, Bell and Morrissey Combine For Two Runs in Dramatic Ending as Mocs Walk Off With 4-3 Win Over Lynn in Home Opener AUBURNDALE – Chalk up one more dramatic win for the Florida Southern Moccasins. One week after winning one game in extra innings and one in the top of the seventh at Eckerd, the Moccasins pulled out another final at-bat victory by scoring two runs in the span of three pitches in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Lynn 4-3 in their 2017 home opener.

    Beacham Wins SSC Pitcher-of-the-Week Award MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Southern’s Kristen Beacham has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week for February 20 after a 10-inning, complete game win over Eckerd College in her most recent appearance. The freshman from Bartow and Lakeland Christian is the second SSC award winner in as many weeks following Erica Morrissey on February 13.

    Unconventional Runs in Seventh Inning Give Florida Southern 4-3 Win at Eckerd for Series Sweep ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Having already come back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game, and with the rain moving in, Florida Southern may have been playing with an extra sense of urgency in the latter stages of the series finale at Eckerd. Still tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, the Moccasins made sure the weather wouldn’t be a factor and completed the sweep by scoring on an illegal pitch and squeeze bunt for a 4-3 win over the Tritons.

    10th Inning Explosion Give FSC Extra-Inning Win in Opener; Entire Lineup Blows Up Game Two as Moccasins Sweep Eckerd in Friday Doubleheader ST. PETERSBURG, FL – After coming oh-so-close to winning the game in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, and watching the Tritons escape each time, Florida Southern slammed the door emphatically in the 10th. Leah Pemberton’s two-out RBI single broke a scoreless tie, and Alex Mace and Donna Ryan drove in three more runs after that to give the Moccasins a 4-1 win over the Tritons in the first game of their Friday night doubleheader. In the second game, Florida Southern had 17 hits, including four from Shannon Bell and three from Mace as they downed the Tritons 9-1.

    Softball Series at Eckerd Adjusted for Potential Inclement Weather This Weekend (UPDATED AS OF THURSDAY) Florida Southern and Eckerd have agreed to adjust this weekend’s softball schedule due to the threat of possible inclement weather on Saturday. The Moccasins and Tritons will now play a doubleheader on Friday night at 6 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m. All three games will still be played in St. Petersburg. It’s the first Sunshine State Conference series of the year for both teams, though the Moccasins won an earlier non-conference game at the Eckerd College Invitational.

    Morrissey Named Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern third baseman Erica Morrissey has been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week for February 13 after a strong weekend performance in St. Augustine where the Moccasins went 2-2 against neighboring Southeast Region opponents Flagler, Georgia Southwestern and Newberry. The senior from Lakeland led the Moccasins in almost every offensive category during those four games, including batting average (.500), on-base percentage (.600) and slugging percentage (.833).

    Jones Tosses 1-Hitter but Newberry Uses Tie-Breaker to Score in Eighth Inning for 1-0 Win Over Mocs ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Senior Brandi Jones pitched one of the best games of her career, if not the best, but ended up suffering one of the most unjust defeats a Moccasin pitcher has ever taken. Jones allowed only one hit and issued only one walk, but Newberry used the international tie-breaker to score an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand Jones and the Moccasins a 1-0, extra-inning defeat.

    Bell Provides Early Spark, Flodman and Pemberton Pick up the Mocs in Later Innings as FSC Downs Georgia SW 9-1 ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Shannon Bell’s leadoff home run in the first inning got Florida Southern off to a roaring start, and Zierra Flodman and Leah Pemberton combined for four RBI in the final two innings as the Moccasins closed out their 4-game road trip with a 9-1, 5-inning victory over Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon.

AUGUSTINE, FL – Freshman Kristen Beacham held Flagler to two runs through the first five innings, but a 2-run homer by Morgan Murphy in the bottom of the sixth inning doubled the lead and sent the Saints on to a 5-0 win over Florida Southern.

    Morrissey’s Four Hits and Five RBI Back Gault’s Shutout Pitching as Moccasins Down Georgia SW 8-0 ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Senior third baseman Erica Morrissey had a game to remember Friday night, while a lot of other Moccasins were going about making their own set of memories. Morrissey went 4-for-5 with five RBI, Shannon Bell and Jessica Trana each had three hits, Leah Pemberton drove in a pair of runs too, and freshman Kelli Gault tossed a 4-hit shutout as Florida Southern defeated Georgia Southwestern 8-0 in their second game of the day.

    Freshmen Pitchers Shine Again, Timely Hits Give FSC Three Runs for 3-1 Win Over Eckerd CLEARWATER, FL – One night after one freshman tossed a shutout in her collegiate debut, the Moccasins turned to another freshman Saturday afternoon and got a similar result. With Kelli Gault holding Eckerd scoreless into the fifth inning, strong relief work from two other pitchers, and RBI singles from three different players, Florida Southern won its second game of the Eckerd College Invitational by defeating host Eckerd 3-1.

    Pair of 3-Run Innings Give Saint Leo 6-3 Win Over Florida Southern at Eckerd College Invitational CLEARWATER, FL – Freshman Alex Mace delivered the first big hit of her college career Saturday, giving Florida Southern the lead against 17th-ranked Saint Leo. The Lions, however, came back from that with three runs in both the second and third innings and went on to a 6-3 win over the Moccasins to end the second day of the Eckerd College Invitational.

    Total Team Effort Leads Softball to 6-0 Win in Season Opener Against Chadron State CLEARWATER, FL – An impressive group of newcomers made an immediate impact for Florida Southern in its season opener Friday night at the Eckerd College Invitational, but the old-timers (relatively speaking) made their presence felt as well. Behind a 4-hit shutout by freshman Kristen Beacham, two hits apiece from junior college transfers Shannon Bell and Desirae Klumpp, and two hits and two RBI from sophomore Jessica Trana, the Moccasins started 2017 with a 6-0 win over Chadron State.

    2017 Florida Southern Softball Preview Another new season is about to begin for the Florida Southern softball team, year number 36 for both the Moccasins and head coach Chris Bellotto, and like each of the first 35 they’ve spent together, it brings another new set of challenges. Yet while the challenges themselves may be unique from year to year, the fact that every team before them had their own obstacles to overcome means the 2017 Moccasins know the goals they’ve set are certainly attainable. The Moccasins have accomplished so much in the last 35 years by pushing through whatever has stood in their way, the trophy case is overflowing, and Bellotto believes this year’s team has the talent to achieve great things too.

    Sunshine State Conference Preseason Softball Poll Announced MELBOURNE, Fla.– The 2017 Sunshine State Conference Preseason Softball Coaches poll has been announced and Saint Leo University is the unanimous pick to repeat as league champions. The Lions received 64 total points and all eight possible first place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams, and provisional members Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle are not yet eligible.

    2017 Softball Schedule Announced; Moccasins to Play All 19 Home Games at Auburndale Softball Complex Florida Southern’s 2017 softball schedule has been released, and the upcoming season will have a much different feel for the Moccasins as construction begins on the new Barnett Athletic Complex on the Florida Southern campus. With their normal home field undergoing a complete makeover, and a new stadium expected to open in the spring of 2018, the Moccasins will play all of their home games this year at the Auburndale Softball Complex in nearby Auburndale.

    Gianni Artidiello Takes on Expanded Role with FSC Softball Program Florida Southern head softball coach Chris Bellotto has announced that Gianni Artidiello will be transitioning into an expanded role with the program starting this fall after joining the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in the spring of 2016. A 2-year starting infielder for the Moccasins who graduated last December, Artidiello is part of a staff that already includes Bellotto and assistant coach Michelle Lovell, two other Florida Southern alums.
