Senior designated player Jessica Trana was voted to two different All-South Region Softball Teams this week by earning NFCA Second Team honors from the coaches' organization, and second team honors by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association. She is the first Florida Southern DP to make the all-region team since Angela Williams did so in 2008 and '09.
Trana was one of only two players to start every game for the Moccasins this year and hit .273 with a team-leading 23 RBI. She also led the Mocs with nine doubles, 10 extra-base hits, and 20 walks. Her .372 on-base percentage was second on the team, and her .333 average with runners in scoring position was the best. Among her season highlights were two RBI in a 3-1, extra-inning win at Tampa; a double, triple, and three RBI in a 5-4 win over Davenport; and a 7-hit series at Barry.
A four-year starter for the Mocs at either the DP or first base positions, Trana finished her career tied for seventh on the school's career doubles list with 37. This year, she became just the second player in team history to lead the team, or tie for the lead, in RBI three times. Kellie Robinson was the first, doing that three years in a row from 1989-91.
