LAKELAND - Florida Southern's men's and women's water ski teams will open its 2015 season this weekend as they travel to Groveland, Fla., to face Rollins in back-to-back meets at Jack Travers' Sunset Lakes complex.
The two teams will open the season with a dual meet against each other at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, before meeting once again on Sunday, Sept. 20 beginning at 9 a.m.
This weekend's action is the first of three scheduled meets this fall for the Moccasins as they are scheduled to compete at the NCWSA Eastern Regional Championships on Sept. 26-27 in Greenwood, S.C. at Rodgers Farm Lakes and then will compete on Oct. 15-17 at the 2015 NCWSA National Championships, which this year is being held at the Lakes of Cypress Hill in Cypress, Texas.
Last season, the Moccasins, who are coached by Curtis Rabe, finished third overall for the third time in the last four years at the NCWSA National Championships as they scored a combined 10,635 points (the men's and women's point totals are added together) at the national championships. The Moccasin men finished in third place with a total of 5,350 points, while the FSC women finished in fourth place with 5,285 total points in the 12-team Division I field.
In the individual competition at last year's NCWSA National Championships held at the Tri-Lakes Complex in Zachary, La., senior Lauren Morgan (Odessa, Fla.) finished fourth in the women's overall scoring with a total of 1,640 points after finishing fourth in the jumps, fifth in the slalom and 10th in tricks, while on the men's side, senior Thibault Dailand (Orthez, France) was the top overall skier as he scored 1,690 points after placing second in the slalom and third in both the tricks and jumps competition.
Dailand and Morgan are two of the Mocs top returners from last season and will be joined this season by two-time NCWSA slalom national champion K.C. Wilson, a senior from Winter Springs, Fla., and 2013 NCWSA women's tricks national champion Ellie Rae Horton, a junior from Thousand Oaks, Calif.
