LAKELAND, FL - For the socond time this season, Florida Southern College women's basketball junior Anja Fuchs-Robetin has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, the SSC office announced on Monday. Fuchs-Robetin, who was the conference Player of the Week on Nov. 13, most recently earned SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Jan. 8 and was also the Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 27.
She averaged 28.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Moccasin victories last week. Fuchs-Robetin hit 62.5 percent (20-of-32) of her shot attempts, including 4-of-6 from long range, and went 12-of-13 at the charity stripe. She also added 23 total rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass. Against Tampa, Fuchs-Robetin poured in 23 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, and followed that up with a career-best 33 points and eight rebounds in a win over Nova Southeastern.
Her 33 points are the most for a Moccasin since Michaela Hawley poured in 38 in a 99-93 overtime win over NSU on Jan. 27, 2010. Fuchs-Robetin has also compiled 10 double-doubles this season, the most since Emma Cannon recorded 23 during the 2010-11 campaign. She also leads the conference and is 12th nationally in field-goal percentage (59.8), and is the league leader in rebounds per game and defensive rebounds per game.
Florida Southern returns to action at home on Wednesday against Saint Leo, and heads to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. The Mocs end the month at home against Eckerd on Jan. 31.
