MELBOURNE, FL- For the third time this season, Florida Southern College women's basketball junior Anja Fuchs-Robetin has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the SSC office announced on Monday. Fuchs-Robetin, who was the conference Player of the Week on Nov. 13 and Jan. 22, most recently earned SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Jan. 8 and was also the Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 27.
She averaged 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds last week as the Moccasins picked up two conference victories. The junior also recorded four steals, two blocks, and pulled down 12 defensive rebounds.
In Florida Southern's first win last week, an 85-78 double-overtime victory against Eckerd, Fuchs-Robetin had 21 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks including a game-changing block at the buzzer in the first overtime to send the game into the second overtime, where Florida Southern won 85-78.
In her final game of the week, she posted 11 points, five rebounds, and two steals to help the Mocs to a 77-60 victory over Barry. Fuchs-Robetin ranks fourth in the SSC in blocks (24), first in defensive rebounds per game (6.0), and is first in double-doubles (12).
Fuchs-Robetin's latest SSC honor is the seventh weekly award for the Moccasins this season. In addition to her previous Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors, Fuchs-Robetin has also seen two teammates, Jensen Blassage (Jan. 15) and Camille Giardina (Feb. 5), earn SSC Player of the Week Honors. This week's awards mark the first time this season that Florida Southern has swept the weekly SSC Women's Basketball Awards.
Moccasin men's basketball standouts Jonathan Lawton (Offensive Player of the Week) and Slinky Jones (Defensive Player of the Week) were this week's winners on the men's side, marking the first time in conference history that a single member institution has won all four weekly basketball awards.
Florida Southern returns to action when it travels to Winter Park on Wednesday to take on Rollins. The Mocs finish the week at home against Florida Tech on Feb. 10 in the team's annual Think Pink game.
