MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College women's basketball junior Camille Giardina has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Giardina averaged 26.5 points and seven rebounds per game as the Moccasins extended their win streak to double-digits last week.
She led the Moccasins to a double-overtime victory over Eckerd as she posted a career-high 34 points on Wednesday, and followed that up with 19 points as the Mocs rolled past Barry on Saturday to push their win streak to 11-straight games. In Saturday's win, Giardina moved into 17th place in school history in scoring (1,081 points).
In the two games, Giardinia shot a combined 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the floor, including 7-of-15 from beyond the arc, and went 6-of-8 at the charity stripe. She also added seven total rebounds, six steals, and a pair of assists.
Giardina's award is the second of her career and the seventh weekly honor for the Moccasins this season. Teammates Jensen Blassage (Player of the Week - Jan. 15) and Anja Fuchs-Robetin (Player of the Week - Nov. 13, Jan. 22; Defensive Player of the Week - Nov. 22, Jan. 8, Feb. 5) have also earned weekly honors this year. This week's awards mark the first time this season that Florida Southern has swept the weekly SSC Women's Basketball Awards.
Moccasin men's basketball standouts Jonathan Lawton (Offensive Player of the Week) and Slinky Jones (Defensive Player of the Week) were this week's winners on the men's side, marking the first time in conference history that a single member institution has won all four weekly basketball awards.
Florida Southern returns to action when it travels to Winter Park on Wednesday to take on Rollins. The Mocs finish the week at home against Florida Tech on Feb. 10 in the team's annual Think Pink game.
