MELBOURNE, FL - For the third time this month and fifth time this year, Florida Southern College women's basketball junior Anja Fuchs-Robetin was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. In addition to Monday, she also earned the award on Nov. 27, Jan. 8, Feb. 5 and 19.
In two games last week she averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, pulled down 14 of her 16 rebounds on the defensive glass. She also had four blocks and three steals on the week. Fuchs-Robetin totaled eight rebounds in each game and recorded three of her blocks and all three steals against Embry-Riddle. In the victory over Tampa, she finished with 16 points, eight rebounds (all defensive), and a pair of assists to help the Mocs seal the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Sunshine State Conference Championship Tournament. The latest Defensive Player of the Week honor is Fuchs-Robetin's seventh weekly conference award of the season. She was the SSC Player of the Week on Nov. 13 and Jan. 22. It is the ninth weekly SSC award for the Mocs this season, as Jensen Blassage (Jan. 15) and Camille Giardina (Feb. 5) have both been named as the SSC Player of the Week.
Florida Southern will host Saint Leo on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the SSC Championship tournament at 5:30 p.m.
