» MOCCASIN STORYLINES

Florida Southern enters the NCAA South Regional after winning the Sunshine State Conference regular-season and tournament titles for the first time since 2010-11. The Moccasins earned the No. 2 seed in the South Region.

The last time the Mocs played at Union in a South Regional, things could not have gone better. During the 2016 South Region Tournament, Florida Southern defeated Kentucky State, Tampa, and Benedict to win the regional title and advance to the Elite Eight.

Florida Southern is led by a trio of all-conference players in Anja Fuchs-Robetin, Camille Giardina, and Jensen Blassage. Fuchs-Robetin was a first team all-SSC selection and the conference Player of the Year. Giardina was a first team all-SSC honoree, and Blassage earned second-team accolades. Betsy Harris was named as the SSC Coach of the Year for the second time in her four years at Florida Southern.

Florida Southern is 10-12 all-time in NCAA Tournament games and is making its 13th appearance in the championship tournament. The Mocs are 7-5 all-time in the first round but have never faced Valdosta State in the opening round of the tournament.

The Mocs and Blazers have met twice in NCAA Tournament games, with each earning a victory. Florida Southern defeated Valdosta State, 77-73, to win the South Region title in 1995, while the Blazers got the better of the Moccasins in the last meeting (67-63) in the semifinal round in 2011.

The winner of today's game will either Lee or North Alabama in the semifinal round. The Moccasins have not played UNA since 2012 and fell to Lee 70-68 in the second game of the year.
