LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College women's basketball head coach Betsy Harris has wrapped up her recruiting class for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign with the signing of Ashley Shell, a 5-11 forward from Deerfield Beach High School. Shell will join the Moccasins after averaging 14.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game as a senior. Shell helped lead the Bucks to a 24-6 record this past season, including a trip to the FHSAA Girls 9A State Semifinals.
"Ashley comes from a successful high school program that made it to the FHSAA Final Four," said Harris. "She will give us muscle in the post, she is competitive, and she knows how to win. I look forward to watching her compete against our more experienced posts as they will help prepare her for this upcoming season."
At Deerfield, Shell earned scholar-athlete honors. She also played AAU basketball for Lady Law, earning MVP and multiple all-tournament honors. She is the last of five recruits to sign with the Mocs for the upcoming year, joining Chesney Campbell, Rebekah Kalaydjiev, Kateryna Khomenko, and Mackenzie Steele.

During her two years with the Golden Eagles, Chesney helped lead her squad to a pair of 20-win seasons, including a 23-9 record in 2017-18. As a sophomore, Campbell played in all 32 games and made 19 starts for the Golden Eagles. She averaged 6.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while recording a team-best 23 blocks. In her first year at Southern Idaho, she appeared in 31 games while making three starts, averaging 4.6 points and 3.7 rebounds. Campbell was part of a Golden Eagles squad that made back-to-back NJCAA Region 18 Tournaments and finished a combined 43-20 in two years at CSI.

Vienna, Austria | Parhamergymnasium
Kalaydjiev will be the second Austrian on Florida Southern's roster, joining current Moccasin standout Anja Fuchs-Robetin. She has played on the Austrian U18 national team, as well as Vienna 87 in the Austrian first league.
Kateryna Khomenko | 6-1 | F
Cervia, Italy | Paolini-Cassiano (Georgia Highlands)
Khomenko played in 31 games last year and made 24 starts. She averaged 11.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 71.8 percent at the charity stripe. She also dished out 48 assists, tallied 32 steals, and recorded 57 blocks. Khomenko scored in double figure in 21 games last season and averaged better than 13.0 points per game over the last 14 games of the season. An all-GCAA selection last season at GHC, Khomenko was also named to the GCAA all-tournament team and was an all-academic honoree. She won a club national title in Italy in 2015 and joins a Florida Southern squad that is coming off Sunshine State Conference regular-season and tournament titles, as well as a third-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.

Steele will come to Florida Southern after a standout career at nearby Plant City high school. A first team all-conference player and team MVP as a junior, Steele won the Western Conference Player of the Year award after averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists per game as a junior. She scored more than 25.0 points per game as a senior while also pulling down six rebounds per game. Steele was also a Class 8A all-state selection this past year.
