MELBOURNE, FL - A pair of Florida Southern College women's basketball seniors, Camille Giardina and Anja Fuchs-Robetin, were named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Monday, December 17. The senior duo led the Mocs to a non-conference victory over Bluefield State, 93-41, a game in which the Mocs limited the Blues to a single point in the second quarter.
Giardina scored 19 points in 19 minutes played for the Mocs. She shot 50% from the field and made six of seven free throws. The Sarasota native brought down five rebounds and tied a season-high with four steals. On the season she leads the SSC in points per game as she averages 17.4 points per game. Giardina pushed her career point total to 1,424 and now ranks 9th in school history in career scoring and is 63 points shy of tying Keisha Richardson for 8th all-time. This is Giardina's first SSC POW of the 2018-19 season and her third all-time.
Fuchs-Robetin played a vital role on defense as the Mocs limited Bluefield State to its lowest scoring total on the season of 41, including a single made free throw in the second quarter. She had seven defensive rebounds for a total of 10 on the day, and also recorded three blocks and a steal. At the other end of the court, she knocked down 13 points and tallied an assist. With 13 points, she increased her career point total to 1,155 to move closer to Antonia Newman (1,164) for 17th in the all-time record books. This is Fuchs-Robetin's first SSC DPOW of the 2018-19 season and eighth all-time.
Florida Southern defeated Saginaw Valley State, 91-65, Monday afternoon and next will face Cedarville on December 18 at 2 p.m.
