BALTIMORE, MD - Florida Southern College junior Emily Santoli has been selected as the 2016 Division II Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year by Inside Lacrosse.
Santoli, who helped lead Florida Southern to the 2016 NCAA Division II national title, finished second on the team in scoring with 67 points (35 goals, 32 assists.) She earned IWLCA all-South Region honors and all-American honors, and was named as the IWLCA's Co-Midfielder of the Year.
In addition, Santoli also earned all-America honors from Lacrosse Magazine, was a first-team all-Sunshine State Conference selection, and was named Division II Midfielder of the Year by Inside Lacrosse.
Santoli recorded multiple goals in 12 of the team's 21 games last year, including a career-high five in an SSC win over Tampa on April 3. She finished second in the SSC and 35 nationally in assist, and was tied for eighth in the conference in goals.
She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in Florida Southern's 8-7 upset of No. 1 Adelphi in the national championship game. Santoli and the Moccasins begin their national title defense on February 16 when they host Grand Valley State.
