MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College women's lacrosse sophomore Dani Bursinger has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Bursinger won 22 draw controls, picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers in four games last week. She won eight draw controls and grabbed four ground balls in a 20-10 win over Fort Lewis. Bursinger also scored a goal in the game.
On the offensive end, she finished the week with four goals and three assists. She tallied a hat trick against Young Harris while winning five draw controls. Bursinger leads the SSC with 5.10 draw controls per game this season.
She is the second Moccasin to earn SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors this year, joining senior goalkeeper Taylor Gillis (Feb. 20). Bursinger's award is the first of her career. This season, Florida Southern has won a total of three weekly conference awards. Kendall Kerge earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on Feb. 20.
The Moccasins return to action today when they face Bloomsburg at 7 p.m., before taking on Indiana (PA) and Seton Hill on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively, to finish off the week.
