  • Eight Women's Tennis Players Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors; Mocs Named All-Academic Team

    SKILLMAN, NJ - Eight Moccasins have been named 2016-17 Scholar-Athletes as announced Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition the Moccasins squad was named an ITA All-Academic Team. The Moccasins, coached by Trish Riddell finished the 2017 Spring semester with a 3.66 grade point average.

    TEMPE, AZ - The final Oracle/ITA Division II Women's Tennis National Rankings have been released and Moccasin Sasha Nionova is ranked 17th nationally, thus earning ITA All-America honors for the 2017 season. She is just the seventh player in Moccasin history to earn ITA All-America status in singles play and the first since Magda Riutort in 2013. Overall, this is the 13th time a Florida Southern player has been so honored.

    MIAMI SHORES, FL - Florida Southern women's tennis season came to an end Monday with a 5-4 setback at the hands of Valdosta State in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Region I Tournament played here at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on the campus of Barry University. The 20th-ranked Moccasins conclude their season with a 15-8 record while the 11th-ranked Blazers, now 18-6, advance to the championship match against Barry at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

    INDIANAPOLIS - Florida Southern will face Valdosta State in the first day of the South Region #1 Tournament to be held May 1-2 at Barry University in Miami Shores. The Moccasins are the tournament's number five seed while the Blazers are seeded fourth. The host Buccaneers will carry the number one seed.

    BRADENTON - They had to wait another day, but the Florida Southern women's tennis team grabbed third place in the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a 5-3 win over Rollins here Sunday at the IMG Academy. The third-place finish is the best for the Moccasins since 2007.

    BRADENTON - Florida Southern dropped a 5-0 match to Lynn University in the semifinals of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Tournament played here Friday at the IMG Academy. With the loss, the 25th-ranked Moccasins fall to 14-7 while the No. 2 ranked Knights improve to 20-1. The Moccasins will now face Rollins, who lost 5-0 to Barry in the other semifinal match, in the SSC Tournament third-place match Saturday at 2 p.m.
