LAKELAND – The Florida Southern women's tennis blanked Texas A&M-Kingsville, 9-0, here Friday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The win, FSC's sixth in a row, is the Moccasins' third 9-0 win in their last five matches, and moves the team mark to 6-2 while Kingsville drops to 6-5.
FSC's number one doubles team of Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci, ranked 10th in the lastest ITA South Regional rankings, defeated Viktoriia Romanovskaia and Valerie Ruiz, 8-2, while Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnik beat Erika Larrea and Vivian Ortiz, 8-5 at number three to improve to 7-1 as a doubles team this season. Linnea Skymberg and Natalija Popovic then completed the Moccasin sweep with an 8-3 topping of Tabata Lua and Lisa Carvajal.
In singles, Nionova, ranked 10th in the region, downed Carvajal, 6-2, 6-1, at number one to record her fifth straight win while Rionda defeated Romanovskaia, 6-1, 6-2, at number two. Devrimci won her match, 7-5, 6-7, 10-4 over Ruiz at number three while Popovic won her fifth consecutive match, disposing of Julia Rauer by a 6-2, 7-5 score at number four.
Florida Southern plays again on Monday at 3 p.m. on the Wynee Warden Tennis Center courts against Murray State.
