WINTER PARK, FL - Florida Southern, ranked 17th in the latest ITA NCAA Division II National Rankings, traveled to Winter Park on Friday and defeated No. 19 Rollins, 6-3, in Sunshine State Conference women's tennis action at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex. The Moccasins are now 13-6 overall and 6-3 in the SSC while Rollins drops to 12-7 and 5-3.
Florida Southern swept the doubles competition for a 3-0 lead. Lorena Rionda and Natalija Popovic defeated Savanna Fuller and Marie Debruyn, 8-4, at number three while Sasha Nionova and Selin Devrimci, ranked 11th nationally, topped 17th-ranked Fabiana Vitanza Alexandra Borg, 8-6, at number one. Nina Schwab and Magda Stepnik edged Teresa Kaiser and Katie Dyson, 9-8 (9-7), at number two to complete the sweep.
In singles, Devrimci dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match to Dyson at number two while Schwab fell to Debruyn, 6-4, 6-4, at number six. Popovic dropped Borg, 6-2, 6-1 to increase the Mocs lead to 4-2 while Lola Asis sealed the Florida Southern win by defeating Fuller, 6-1, 6-4, at number five.
Rionda, ranked 69th nationally, fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 to Vitanza at number one while Stepnik topped Carlye Goldman, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, at number four.
Florida Southern will play their final regular season match at home on Friday, April 13 at 3 p.m. against Florida Tech. The Sunshine State Conference Tournament is slated for April 19-21 in Bradenton, FL.
