Mattson Earns Second SSC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College volleyball junior Nicole Mattson has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. The award is her second SSC Offensive Player of the Week honor this season and her second career award.

Over the weekend, Mattson tallied 38 kills and hit .287 on the attack as the Moccasins swept Florida Tech and defeated Embry-Riddle by a 3-1 score. Mattson averaged 5.43 kills per set, record a pair of service aces, and added 22 digs. In the win over Florida Tech, she finished with 19 kills and hit .340, and followed that up with 19 kills and a .241 attack percentage against Embry-Riddle. Mattson is averaging 3.92 kills per set this year, good for third in the SSC and 27th nationally. She has recorded double-digit kills in four-straight and 12-of-15 matches this season.

Mattson joins teammate Bethany Besancenez (Setter of the Week - Oct. 2 and Oct. 9) as the two Moccasins to earn SSC weekly awards this year. Florida Southern heads to No. 19 Saint Leo on Tuesday in a crucial SSC contest as both squads enter the week tied for second in the conference standings. The Mocs are then slated to face three opponents from the Gulf South Conference at this weekend's annual South Region Crossover.
