MELBOURNE, FL - Florida Southern College volleyball junior Bethany Besancenez was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Setter of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Besancenez, who was also named SSC Setter of the Week on Oct. 2 and Oct. 9, helped lead the Moccasins to three wins last week, including a 3-0 sweep of No. 6 Palm Beach Atlantic as part of the team's current 13-match winning streak.
In three matches last week, Besancenez tallied 124 assists (12.4 per set) while posting 10 kills and six total blocks. She had 35 assists in a 3-0 win at Tampa on Oct. 31 to help the Mocs earn their first road victory over the Spartans since 1994. Besancenez added 38 more in the victory over PBA, which helped vault the Moccasins past the Sailfish in the SSC standings, and she finished the weekend with 54 assists in the win over Rollins.
Besancenez is the third different Moccasin to earn one of the SSC's weekly volleyball awards this year joining Nicole Mattson (Sept. 4 & Oct. 9) and Anna Tovo (Nov. 6), each of whom was named as the SSC Offensive Player of the Week.
Florida Southern's current 13-match winning streak is its longest since the 2006 season when the Mocs also won 13 in a row. The Mocs will face Embry-Riddle (Nov. 10) and Florida Tech (Nov. 11) this weekend as part of a five-match homestand. Saturday's contest against FIT will be Senior Day for the Mocs.
