MELBOURNE, FL - For the fourth time this season, Florida Southern College volleyball's Bethany Besancenez has been named as the Sunshine State Conference Setter of the Week, the SSC office announced on Monday afternoon.
Besancenez, who also earned the award last week, leads the SSC and ranks 12th nationally in assists per set (11.57). She was also named Setter of the Week on Oct. 2 and Oct. 9 and has won the award four times in the past seven weeks.
Last week Besancenez helped lead the Moccasins to a pair of victories, extending Florida Southern's winning streak to 15-straight matches, the program's longest winning streak since 1993 when the Mocs won 17 in a row. She finished last week with 81 total assists, tallying 39 against Embry-Riddle and 42 against Florida Tech. Besancenez also recorded 23 digs, seven kills, and two block assists.
Besancenez is the third different Moccasin to earn one of the SSC's weekly volleyball awards this year joining Nicole Mattson (Sept. 4, Oct. 9, Nov. 13) and Anna Tovo (Nov. 6), each of whom was named as the SSC Offensive Player of the Week.
Florida Southern closes out its regular-season home schedule on Tuesday against No. 23 Saint Leo (7 p.m.) and finishes the regular season with road contests at Nova Southeastern (Nov. 17) and Barry (Nov. 18). The Moccasins are currently ranked No. 24 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll and are No. 1 in the latest NCAA South Region poll.
